USFL - Special Teams Power Rankings Week 9 - Kickers and Punters

Writer: Noah BeausoleilNoah Beausoleil

Week 9 wrap-up is here! Let's discuss Special Teams play, Roster Moves, Highlights, and who was voted onto the All-USFL Team;

Kickers

We actually had a relatively boring week, Power Rankings-wise. Collectively the kickers played better this last week, making 12 of their 18 field goal attempts (66.6%)! Let's discuss why no one moved with a look at my (un)Official Week 9 USFL Kicker Power Rankings;

Working top-down;

  1. Brandon Aubrey (BHAM) had a really good game this week, making all 3 of his field goal attempts, including this laser from 28 yards out. The USFL announced its Inaugural All-USFL Team Special Teams Unit this week and Brandon Aubrey was the kicker selected! And he deserves it too. I hope he finishes the season off right next week!

  2. Cole Murphy (MICH) had a down week this week, but still made his 1 field goal attempt from 25 yards out. He missed his PAT, but it was his first miss all season for PATs so I'll give him a break.

  3. Nick Vogel (HOU) played well this week, also making all 3 of his field goals, with a long of 50 yards!

  4. Louis Aguilar (PHI) had a rough game and there's not much else to say about it. He went 1/3 on field goals and missed two from 45+ yards out. I wouldn't be worried if I was the Stars' front office, but, he does lose the title of being the only kicker hitting 100% on the year.

  5. Taylor Bertolet (NO) did not really bounce back all that well after a tough showing in week 8. He made his only field goal from 26 yards out but also missed his 1 PAT. He needs a good week to make a push into the top 3 next week!

  6. Tyler Rausa (TB) had a bad night. He missed his only kick from 46 yards out and was not given another opportunity to kick. Not getting opportunities has been a story all season for Rausa.

  7. Ramiz Ahmed (PITT) is your USFL Special Teams Player of The Week! It wasn't exactly for his kicking though, as he only hit 1 of his 2 field goal attempts. The field goal he did make was from 59 yards though, and it was a thing of beauty! He also threw a Touchdown Pass. You read that right, Ramiz Ahmed threw the ball on a fake field goal and it went for a touchdown!

  8. Uh... What can I say about Austin Jones (NJ)? If you follow me you already know that he was unfortunately released by the Generals following his performance this week. He went 2/4 on field goals and 1/3 on PATs and that's just not good enough. Read more about the New Jersey Generals Kicker situation HERE!

PUNTERS

Punters had a more interesting week, with two punters raising themselves a spot, with one breaking into the top 2! Let's discuss how the players performed with a look at my (un)Official Week 9 USFL Punter Power Rankings;

Working top-down;

  1. Brandon Wright (TB) played very well this week. He punted 4 times for 211 yards and a NET Avg. of 40.4 net yards per punt. The USFL announced its Inaugural All-USFL Team Special Teams Unit this week and Brandon Wright was the Punter selected!

  2. Colby Wadman (BHAM) will break into the Second Position after performing consistently all season long. He is very close to breaking 40 NET yards per punt and pins his opponents deep 33% of the time!

  3. Matt White (NO) will fall this week due to competition, not due to poor play. The Top 3 punters in this league are all really good and are in contention for my 2022 USFL Best Punter Award! I wish Matt the best in Week 10 and hope to see my Team at the top of the Rankings to end the Season!

  4. Brock Miller (NJ) had another decent game this week and will hold on to the Fourth Position in our Rankings. 2 of his 3 punts went inside the 20 yard line, and he punted for a total of 145 yards (48.3 Avg.). If he plays well next week he has an opportunity to jump into the Top 3!

  5. Andrew Galitz (TB) had the best game of his USFL career this week! He punted 6 times, all of which were inside the 20 yard line. He also hit a season-high of 37.3 NET yards per punt and a season-long of 66 yards! He broke into the top 5 and will try to push his way into the top 50% of the league by next week's end.

  6. Max Duffy (PITT) had a good week and suffers the same fate as Matt White, competition is heating up around him. He had a really good week, punting 3 times for 157 yards (52.3 Avg.) and a NET Avg. of 38 yards (season-high). Not to be outdone by his place-kicking counter-part, Ramiz Ahmed, he faked a punt and passed the ball to his long snapper for a 1st down!

  7. Louis Aguilar (PHI) and Kyle Kramer (MICH) both had rough weeks and didn't do anything to warrant a shift to the bottom of the Power Rankings this week.

New Heights

Okay well, we didn't get another broken record this week but plenty of kickers made new season highs! Let's take a look at who has raised the bar this week;

  • HOU Gamblers Punter Andrew Galitz punts for a long of 66 yards (Personal Best)

  • HOU Gamblers Punter Andrew Galitz punts for a NET Avg. of 37.3 (Personal Best)

  • MICH Panthers Punter Kyle Kramer punts for a long of 56 yards (Personal Best)

  • PITT Maulers Punter Max Duffy punts for a long of 68 yards (Personal Best)
